Burgundy vs. Barol - The Wine of Kings
Apparently a battle of these two wine regions that has been raging for some time now. Whether you are in the French or Italian camp the discussions and beliefs are strong.
On the 22nd of August I was fortunate enough to attend one such battle at Ombra Salumi Bar in Bourke Street. Melbourne.
Luke Campbell from “Vinified Wine Services” was the organiser of the evening and I must say after sampling and drinking wines (yes drinking not just tasting =]) from these two distinctive regions I now have an appreciation of the similarities between the Pinot Noir of Burgundy and Nebbiolo of Barolo actually are.
I would suggest that if you have any interest in either of these regions that you Google them, it is an interesting read. Believe it or not the Celts were growing and producing wine in the Burgundy region as early as 51BC and that’s a long time ago in anyone’s book.
